Shaki's music tangles the soulful sounds of R&B; with the waist-turning and energetic sounds of Dancehall and Soca. Singing, songwriting, and wowing crowds with her eye-catching dancing is only the tip of the iceberg when describing the many talents of Shaki. She has made quite a name for herself with her stellar performances. Shaki has shared the stage with Rupee, Baron, Rikki Jai, Alison Hinds, and Scrunter to name a few. She has toured through New York, Atlanta, Miami, and Houston with Onyan and the Baygan band. She is featured on several songs of saxophonist Shaakir's album "Smooth Sensual Sax" and performed live at his album release party. Her self-written ear-catching song, "Caress My Soul" became a part of regular rotation in the Red Rooster club after that night.
Shaki was recently front-lining Houston based band Caribbean Rhythms. Using the experience she gained from being one of the former lead vocalists for caribbean band Project One, Shaki made sure to make her band mates proud and keep her fans anxious with each new show. She is cultivating a strong fan-base here in Houston while also pulling in national followers from major cities such as New York, Miami, Atlanta, and surrounding Texas cities. While leading Caribbean Rhythms band alongside Tremendos and Lyrics, Shaki was also passionately and diligently focusing on recording and releasing self-written and some self-produced solo records. Fans can expect the debut compilation album of Shaki and Tremendos - "Between Two Fires" in Septmeber 2003.
Shaki's music can be heard on Various Artists Cds mixed and produced by Kingsman Camp and on Thursdays via KTSU's Choice 90.9 Caribbean Vibes. She has released locally popular songs such as "Lioness Lovin", "Misery Loves Company", and "Chatty Mouth" which has left many unseen fans asking - "Who's that girl?" However, it is no longer a mystery who Shaki is since she has made her face a familar sight in the music scene.
Born August 8, this native Houstonian bleeds music. With both parents (father a guitarist/songwriter and mother a singer/cultural dancer) from Trinidad, it is only natural that Shaki has the ability to adapt to many atmospheres. This songwriter/vocalist/poet/Caribbean dancer has a seemingly quiet demeanor and a youthful spirit. She has become infamous over the years for her sexy, soulful singing, entertaining dancing, and creative writing skills.
