Benjamin Bruce started singing, playing guitar, and performing before he could drive the red clay roads in the small southern town of Cochran, Georgia. Picking up the guitar at age twelve, he realized a creative output for songwriting and vocal performance with a distinctive southern/blues/alt.country flavor. Comprising one-half of the acoustic duo Southern Way and playing the college bar scene and outdoor festivals for a couple of years Benjamin Bruce moved to Texas in 1980 and earnestly started cutting his songwriting teeth around Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. Playing the TX bar scene for over six years he headed back to GA armed with a couple of guitars and a small catalog of well crafted tunes. Recording and gigging with old friends he continued to write and perform until the road led to Athens and Atlanta, playing small pubs and acoustic venues on Peachtree Street for several years. Continuing to surround himself with a supporting cast of versatile multi-instrumentalists Benjamin Bruce has carved a unique sound exceedingly simple in breadth yet encompassing real life lyrical imagery and tongue in cheek southern rowdiness.
