Being East Coast musicians Grindstone earned their reputation the hard way; they worked hard, taking every opportunity to play. It wasn't before long they moved off the hay wagon at friendly get-togethers to getting asked to play at charity events such as Ride for Sight, I.W.K Fundraisers, and many benefit dances for local causes. Local bars and pubs soon took notice and Grindstone was on their way! Fully upgraded, Grindstone is experiencing their vision. After a change in approach, style, and line-up members Kent Beattie, Derek Wood, Mike Sicheri, and Angus Furlong are dominating mainstream sounds on top of classic bar tunes. With music by the latest artists to everyone’s favorites from time gone by, Grindstone attracts all ages. Grindstone believes everyone is entitled to a good show. It was their motto when they first started playing at parties and it is what they believe now that they are a mobile business. If there is only one person in the audience they deserve the same show that a thousand people would get. Visually stunning and aurally stimulating, audiences get up and dance to Grindstone because they are not your average “stand-in-one-spot-and-play " band. ------------------------------------------------------------Grindstone members Bio:----------------------------------------------------------- Grindstone found Kent Beattie playing guitar and singing in a brooding cafe' while he was still in high school. At a young age Kent's voice made him stand out even amongst his adult peers. Now with the threat of being a minor gone, Kent draws on mainstream styles such as Matchbox 20 and Creed , Kent adds color to the bands sound that is both familiar and distinctly his own. Award winning salesman by day, Angus Furlong becomes the rumbling bass when Grindstone takes the stage at night. Capable of keeping the band and audience in the pocket or unleashing into a sub-sonic assault, Angus joined the band when Grindstone began their transition to becoming the band everyone wanted to hear. Derek Wood is the backbone of the group, holding enough digital technology to assure the old “boom-tick “of the drums never sound boring again. His humorous approach to life combined with sheer joy of performing has made him a crowd pleaser whose company is always enjoyed by the audience while he is both on and off the stage. From managing a business, Michael Sicheri knows that it takes hard work and dedication to make something a success. By playing lead guitar with the same values and ideals that has made his business flourish, Mike takes to the stage night after night with the same attitude and conviction that gives Grindstone such a diverse and recognizable sound.
Writting thier own songs now Grindstone is currently recording and plans to make an appearance at the ECMA's in 2006. Only time will tell what the music scene has in store for them. We will upload some of the recordings as soon as they are done which should be mid september.
