Music is a bit of a double edged sword, and the members of Shinobu are extremely tired of seeing the negative sides of it. They're sick of subgenres where style is key (Electroclash, Screamo, Dancepunk, Garage Rock, etc.) and bands that do nothing more than play their songs on stage. In response, Shinobu is a desperately charged, simplistic indie rock band in the style of Sebadoh, the Pixies and Going Steady, with a twinge of New Order. They don't sing about relationships or choose pretty words over subject matter, but, instead, write about the existential ideals and stories that have influenced their own lives in an attempt to bring attention to the fact that life is an amazing (and short) ride. Their self-released EP, "Exhaustion, Exhaustion" has generated strong sales at live shows, charted number one on Santa Clara college radio station KSCU (103.3), number six on Seattle's KSUB (89.1), and done well on other west coast college radio stations in addition to getting light air-play on Live 105 (local KROQ affiliate). Their song "Shoot the Sky Down" was featured on Springman Records' "Punk Rock Strike 4" (2003) which has sold over 25,000 copies around the USA. Known for their relentlessly energetic live shows, they have shared the stage with such acts as Ted Leo and the Pharmacists (Lookout), Xiu Xiu (5RC), Sage Francis (Anticon/Epitaph) and Fiery Furnaces (Rough Trade). They have been happy to participate in festivals like San Jose's Stop Drop and Rock, and San Francisco's PiNoisePop, have completed a west coast tour and look forward to touring as much as possible in the coming months.
