Hey guys, I got some info yesterday that I thought was quite
interesting and I thought you guys might be able to give me some
input. As I've mentioned before, we are set to do a music video
for the newly recorded version of "Shimmer Cell" in March (Spring
Break) in L.A. We were sorta chosen for this opportunity.
The director is on the rise and he wants to use this vid for his
reel. Therefore, we do not have to provide the budget (key
element). The budget is about 10g. The director (Tom Oesch)
has informed me that the producer of this video is closly connected
with Lou Pearlman and that he knows about us and would like to view the
video and hear the album when complete. He said that he was
interested and that the video has to be of top quality because Lou
Pearlman can pretty much change both of our lives forever. I know
that there has been lots of controversy surrounding Pearlman and I need
some input on what you think about this. Help me Pleease!
Monti

Wish I knew about any controversy. I associate his name with Boy Bands, and believe he made a lot of young kids, young VERY rich kids. What kind of troubles surround his name? He would seem like a hell of a name to be attached to.

Well, there was the issue with all of his "bands" taking him to court
after making it big. Could be greed issues, possibly. Then
there is the issue with him being known for doing that kind of thing
(boy bands and such) and whether or not it would be good for us to be
associated with him.

Well I asked my significant other about him too. She mentioned the matter of percentage of his take. I may not be the same as others on this matter. Without someone like him taking the bands underneath his wings, there's a good chance they would have never gone anywhere. Being that I've never made more then $22,000 on my very best year, I could retire easily on a fairly light amount. I guess I'll have to further research this guy, but, I'd be tempted to sell myself cheap, or my songs for that matter.
PS---Monti, will ya put the lyrics up for your tracks? Pretty please?

From a UK viewpoint (and please dismiss my point as lightweight if need by) each and every manager of boy bands I know in this country tend to be gay. Now this isn't an issue in itself or indeed a problem, just that maybe he might not be overly bothered by a female fronted act when push came to shove. If indeed he was of that persuasion...
Just a thought!

The only safe bet here is to get yourself a savvy music biz lawyer. It is complicated enough WITH one of these in your pocket, it's damn near impossible to figure out without one. There ARE tons of sharks of all sizes and shapes in the music business and from what I know myself about this guys rep, he could well be trouble.
I was in the biz myself for 20 or so years both as a musician and as a producer/manager and I never did anything without passing it past my brief first...

That right there Monti is the best advice you could probably get on the subject. Always C.Y.A.!! My advice would be to trust your gut. I suspect you already dont trust him by reputation, but the temptation of quick success is making you think it might be a good idea. Success is more fruitful and long lasting when its earned on ones own terms. How many celebs can you think of that wanted out of the deals that made them stars? A lot!! Trust your instincts on this. If he looks like a rat, smells like a rat... Well you get the idea. Best of luck too you... and if that doesnt work do what steve said and get a lawyer...and uh.... dont trust him either!!
