Hi all - here's a tip I learned.

If you wanna get more attention for your hard work and creativity from the like-minded people who have an interest in the same style of music as you, and therefore ease the process for all who read through - why not include the GENRE in your Subject title eg:

JAZZ - Mr Nice - smashing track

ROCK - nutty Dereck - eat me

DANCE - Avin' it feat. glo-stick

(silly comments are optional of course).  This will probaly get you more reviews and comments and votes and free beer and chicks and you will become really popular and.... well you get the idea?

You're all SUPERSTARS!

Stew - if this hasn't been said, perhaps a sticky version?

A such as I appreciate the advice I just try and put everything I do under "Electronic" which to me thats what it is. (Composed using sequencers, Keyboards, Computers, Midi etc...)

I don't see the point in putting whatever genre it is in the thread heading as this may put off listeners. I like to use the Art of Surprise.

I don't like labels all these genres where made up by the media anyway. These days you don't know where you stand when it comes to musical genres.

I can't particularly say I like genre labels either - usually because I tend to blur them to the point of absurdity

On a related point, I much prefer sites where the MUSIC is the message and not the genre, I've come across some extraordinary artists that way...

Just my 2 cents of course...

I like the idea.  I don't think Rakk meant you have to be restricted to only genre's catagorized on mp3unsigned.com.  Make your own up, like "Jazz Fresh" by Alexis, or "Funky Rock", or "Drunk Piano", or "Leftist Folk" --to give it your own flavor or musical individuality.  As always, just an opinion.

What Rakk says is tru, the first line people read is the subject. Why not make it sing!?

Thanks to BugelBoy, Steve G, Stephen T  and Marty for the feedback - all good and valid points

I think the main reason I posted this was that when I was trawling through the new MP3 posts on the message board, I found myself getting a tiny bit frustrated following links to genres I don't really prefer to listen to.

MP3unsigned is an excellent forum for feedback but I don't like to leave comments on tracks in genres I know nothing about.

I suppose an obvious alternative is to read the "latest music" page, but the new MP3 message board has more "promotional" opportunity for us.

You know the feeling when a track comes on the radio that doesnt fit your mood?  You head for the dial and switch over.

Respect.

Rakk

Hi Rakk M8

I know where you're coming from, but I personally have had my ears & musical tastes widened by being open to listening to music in genres that I'd not normally visit just by clicking on links on new mp3 posts.

I don't always leave a comment & sometimes feel guilty for that, but I think if the genre was identified in the original post then I may have been disuaded from going any further.  As it is, I now have a fantastic collection (easily over 100) of MP3Unsigned music on my HD that I wouldn't normally have had.

So my point is, yes make the post subject interesting, humourous, witty etc to attract attention, but don't be too genre defined in your comments as to restrict your potential audience from at least taking a look at your page & an interest in you as an artist/band/musician.

Once they get to your page then it's up to them if they decide to go further & actually take interest in your music.  I usually know within the first 30 secs if I want to carry on listening, or maybe download for future playing when I'm in that particular music mood.

I would never have attempted some of the tracks I've produced either as Spyda or Taurus Project, if it wasn't for the wide variety of music I've heard over the years.  As an artist I feel I can personally develop & gain knowledge & experience from appreciating the textures, sounds & feel of another genre , even if I really don't like that particular song or band etc.

I'm waffling on so I'm off now

Later Gang

To sort of change the subject slightly, but picking up on one point, i've been through a load of sites, and some do have chat and message forums, but i've never enjoyed so much my experience on mp3unsigned and met some really cool mates and top musicians. You know who you are.

My point being, (I'm getting there), it is a good idea to genre'(fied) each song, that way you can pick from a vast list in that genre, i've never seen a list so big since mp3.com  - And the best thing of all, the site is free, however would recommend signing up for a V.I.P. (something i've got to do myself, lol !!!)

Keep it cool.

Damien

Great points again from Spyda and Dsential - GREAT to get such considered views.

I am in total agreement that following the tempting subject lines can lead to discovery of new "not-normally-my-cup-of-tea" tracks.  No argument from me there boys - valid objective points.  After all I discovered Wendy AND Beta17 through these routes.

S'pose I might have just got sick of tuning into stuff that wasn't lighting my candle that day when I posted this sticky heheh.

Swings n roundabouts I suppose.

I love this place.  Forum power rules, freedom of choice prevails and all of us are fabulous so lets ROCK/DANCE/OTHER, come on everybody. Yaya!

I'm off to remix Beta17 again (thanks to a non-genre specific post three weeks ago).

PS I STILL need a reveiw of my last mix so please feel free to do so.

These were some really great suggestions. I just put a post up and I think I better go back to it and change the title. Thanks!...

Hey RAKK, I'm listening to Space Man Silver Man (Rakk Remix) again!  There's like this Britney Spear-ish sound to it that I feel you may have hinted in on purpose. If that's true, baby, you are brilliant. At the same time everything else is so true to the theme! Space. And baby, here is the other thang I love about the mix... you've produced not only a fabulous new speed but a fantastic fresh melody into it. THANK YOU! Beautiful work darlin'.

(Hey, did y'all here the new rumor? RAKK is re-mixing some of my stuff! Wait, that ain't no rumor! It gonna happen yo!)
