Tupac was the strong point and the rest is kinda dull for me - his raps were about somethin deeper than the usual gangsta crap which is incredibly dull unless you're a thirteen year old who can't keep his pants up.
Atom the Immortal who had some tracks on here is a pretty dynamic rapper who has something interesting to say...
sir H has done some decent raps on here...
also I'm no expert on rap so take it for what its worth...honestly I don't keep up with it these days
but bottom line for me -its about the content of the lyric as well as the delivery and music production that accompanies the rapper. If the rapper is just talking sh*t about what a tough thug he is and how down he is and like that - then I'm quit listenin after the first eight bars...if he or she got somethin authentic to say - by that I mean from the heart - then I will listen...
![]() also I notice that on here very few rappers take the time to listen to other peeps music - sometimes they come here and tell us how fckin great they are and then we never hear from them again let alone get feedback from them....
Sir H is an exception to this rule...just an observation.... Edited by realshanti - 04 December 2007 at 6:21am |

What's wrong is the lack of lyrical quality, too many fakes tryin to act hard (the game, snoop, others), arrogance, ignorance, haters (not just the fans but the actual artists') there's just too many things that can be pointed out, like mel said Pac was the strength, when he died hiphop AND a form of rap died with him, I recently acquired over 100 of his studio acapellas so I'm constantly listening to the man rather than the music.
Poetry, that's what hiphop was and is sposed to be, rap...well like pac said "rap can do whatever rap gots to do to survive, but hiphop's gotta stay true", and that's exactly what happened.

high points for me are artists like:
Immortal Technique
Jedi Mind Tricks
Necro
Ill Bill
Klashnikov
Sage Francis
Chris Leese
Gouki Productions
Low points are most of the Rap you hear Commercially, such as:
50 Cent
Kanye West
Some guy with a whiney voice who goes " i wanna see you, be you, you already know" or something like that
Anything i hear when i go out into town

My fav rappers right now are Common/Mos Def/Jay z and a guy from the UK named Dizzy Rascal. When Big L was alive his flow was hot. But for the most part rap has gotten very weak. No lyrical content at all.
