Well, I'm annoyed. Reason 4 uses up too many system resources now for me to use it for most things, and Reaktor 5 is guaranteed to crash on me at least twice a night. I use Reaktor 5 for its drum machines, cus they're brilliant, but is there any other VST instrument or the like that can give the same quality? I've heard good things about Stylus RMX... It needs to be very resource efficient.

(the drum machines in Reason are no good for me btw)

I do.. but they still struggle with a full orchestra and a roomful of synths  (To be fair, you're meant to use like 4 interlinked PCs with the setup I've got...)

That is a worry. I was going to treat myself to Reason 4 for Xmas and I've only got 1GB of Ram  Bollox to that then.

weird that, i thought reason 4 was less cpu & ram draining than 3...saying that tho i only used it on my duel core system.... i cant get it in the yellow on my set up and i  got 4 gig and to be fair i use silly amount of fx and tracks... maybe your set up ain't right.... must be if im honest cos i doubt many use as much fx and tracks as what i do.... you only have 400whatt power supplies in your systems tho so maybe thats a problem? honestly james you must have something set up wrong...btw reason drums are the bollocks  suppose it down to the user tho.

I just checked out SOS and apparently Reason 4 is a lot more resource-intensive.

Don't worry Fudgie, 1GB is more than enough for Reason 4!

My problem is that I need to run so many plugins and VSTs at the same time... eg my last tune had:

3 x instances of East West QL Symphonic Orchestra, 8 instruments each

2 x instances of East West RA

8 x instances of Spectrasonics Atmosphere

1 x Reaktor 5

about 7 x instances of RVerb

1 x RComp, 1 x Imager, 1 x Linear Phase EQ, 1 x L2 Maximiser and a few other things.

And some live tracks... and it still runs at low latency. Reaktor 5 sent it over the edge though, and there is no way I can run Reason well when I'm using that many resources already. I only need something for the glitchy electronic drum sounds really, and it seems over the top to be loading huge things like Reason or Reaktor for it. Hope I explained myself better this time!!

yeah that explains a bit better dude  what i used to do on my old system...that couldn't handle so many tracks... id bounce tracks down as audio with the fx on and then import them via one of the samplers.... saved up loads of cpu power... and there ain't any noticeable lose of quality... i only use reason a cubase sx 3 and i only use battery 3 with cubase... i play my parts in via drum kit export as midi and then load in to reason and use the redrums...more time consuming but it gets the results i want.... im using a korg padcontrol more now and that has template for the redrum so im not so much relying on cubase and battery now for my drum tracks...but i still go that route when i feel like beating the sh*t out my kit

So like some of the glitchy drum stuff on stella polaris or your own tunes, is that mainly redrums? I just can't get those kind of sounds out of it, I just want simple synth-y kind of drum sounds like you can get from Reaktors Newcool or Massive drum samplers.

all the drums on stella were done via redrum.... infact every track on my page is done via redrum or combinators.... i make and save and edit and then save as another lol i spend hours making combinators... a lot of them are bounced down as audio and then edited in pro tools... so yeah i manipulate to get the glitchy sounds just lots of production tricks really and fx...but i make one shot glitch sounds as well... lots of weird ways i do it from switching a light on next to my mic and get electric sounds also unpluging of guitar lead and also turning of my amps or just leaning my guitar up against the amp and turning the gain up....depends how sh*t faced i am i suppose...i like creating sounds

my fav is my desk top lamp.... if i don't press the power button fully down i get some wicked evp sounds...just use my mic and gain on sound card and can really make some awesome sounds....lots of the sounds on the stella album are done that way

i blow a lot of fuses and bulbs tho and had a few shocks as well
