![]() Topic: VTown Cartel signing artistsPosted: 26 November 2007 at 9:44pm |

Hi everyone
I was wondering what the opinions are on this? I found the link on the Propellerheads forums.
http://www.vtowncartelmusic.com/artistdirect They are looking for artists and signing is free with 50/50 split on any revenue generated by them plus will honour any deal you put together yourself.
I mailed them out of interest and they replied almost immediately saying they are keen for a couple of my tracks after I sent them links. They seem legit.
Thoughts...? |

to be honest im a bit pis*ed at the moment, but from what Ive read I don't see any reason why not to go for it.
Your not giving up your copyright so that's a good thing. If they can place you in a film or sell you to a record label, whats wrong with them taking 50%? Whats better, taking 50% of a deal, or having no deal at all? At the end of the day, if they're not asking for money "up front", what have you got to lose? However, I would advise you do plenty of reseach into the company before getting involved good luck |

Again its just a hunch, but when there is so little info then they are a) unlikely to be exactly who they say they are and b) even if they are, they probably won't get you anywhere and could be a big waste of time. Personally I wouldn't go for it, but there is perhaps no harm in giving it a shot if you really want. |

Well I think they're a bit funny, sent them my best quality track (mastered as best as youth could) and a link to my showcase and they replied with this:
Thanks you for submitting your music. Unfortunately, t is not what we looking for at this specific moment. Please stay in touch, and us send tracks as they become available.
Thank you! Spelling errors, missing letters (unless he meant to say tis) and they want me to send my tracks as soon as they're newly recorded for them to do what? I don't know, funny place, still a noob to this kind of thing tho so maybe I'm breathing too much into it.

checked it out thoroughly... check out the behind the scenes video... they are using same DAW as me MOTU Digital Performer on a mac system... running a truckload of tracks...they have some film placement... my take on it is they are an upcoming company but perhaps pretty damn good... they may just have their hands in the right pie! I'd proceed with it, but read everything carefully! good luck with it. I may submit something myself....

Ok so here is a mail conversation i had with them...
Hi Reno
No worries. Get that stuff together as soon as you can and we'll move forward. Let me try and answer your questions . . .
I presume the contract only applies to the tracks attached to the contract? In other words if I make a new track it does not fall under the contract? Would I have to remove the tracks from any sites that they are currently on? Or what if I just removed the download option so that they could be listened to but not copied? No. You can still continue to promote your music and sell thru indie means. We won't touch any revenue from that. If it is a "broadcast" license, we ask that you run the deal thru the company and you will receive 100% of the license revenue for that as well.
I'm not quite clear on the rights you have to the track. Am I still free to try get it signed somewhere else so I could still send demos to other labels etc? Hope that helps. Once again, feel free to call. Look forward to hearing from you.
