I got tickets ages ago for the World Cup through FIFA's website for the winner of group B Vs runner-up group A. This turned out to be England V Ecuador.

So 3 mates and I went to Stuttgart last Saturday for 4 days to enjoy the World Cup. Stuttgart is a beautiful place and they have transformed the city centre with massive screens so that everyone can watch all the games and really enjoy the action and have fun meeting people from all round the world. In the evenings after the matches they put on concerts/music and the atmosphere is fantastic. On Saturday night Sir Bob Geldof himself entertained us all. It was a truly memorable experience - Germans, Ecuadorians, Spanish, Mexicans, Australians, Dutch, Brazilians, Portuguese, Tunisians, Italian and at least 4 Irish guys partied their heads off, all enjoying the moment and each other

Meanwhile in one corner of the square about 500 or 600 'England supporters' spent the entire time drinking themselves to oblivion, singing abusive songs about Germany, constantly going on about the war and generally embarrassing their country beyond belief.

These people have absolutely no respect for anyone outside England and are probably the most ignorant and aggressive bunch of people I have ever encountered. They dont see the problem with wearing t-shirts about shooting down german bombers - for god's sake GET OVER THE WAR! MOVE ON - THE REST OF THE WORLD HAS!!!!

It was the same at the match. The bulk of England supporters spent the time abusing the German crowd. It was pathetic to witness and a sad indictment on the English - it seemed that these men cant enjoy themselves unless they are being abusive and aggressive. When the rest of the world was smiling in Stuttgart, they were grimacing. They dont know what they are missing.

It ain't limited to the 'men' M8 I can assure ya, I've witnessed some incredible scenes from women, of all ages I might add, in this country & abroad that made me embarrassed to be British.

Welcome to England  Sadly the above generally sums up the general English mindset exponentially established over the last few decades. It can all be traced back to the simple adage "treat people like sh*t, and that's what you get".

By contrast the Scottish 'Tartan Army' are widely known as some of the friendliest, and best behaved supporters in the world.

it was so awful to hear that on the news.

but hope you had fun Martin i've heard it's an experience of a life time that you never forget, i got the chills being in barcelona football stadium when it was empty! so i can't even imagine what it woulda been like otherwise.

Go up to Glasgow - and watch England vs "whoever" and watch the Scots build themselves up to cream ya

I was there last weekend and all i did was walk through the centre (most safeest part of Glasgow) with my England Football Flag wrapped around me and my England top

I got spat on twice, nearly got stabbed and basically got chased out of a Pub on UNIVERSITY CAMPUS!!!

They are not receptive at all

I stand corrected then, as I got my info from a story recently featured in the newspaper I work for, about some guy being abused whilst in Scotland for wearing an England shirt. The general feeling was that this was a very strange, and rare occurance, and that many Scotland supporters, and spokespeople fo the Tartan Army were shocked by this, as 'they are widley regarded as one of the friendliest and trouble-free fans in the world'.

Obviously not.
