Absolution Within
For me I love this for its raw quality. So much can be lost in a perfected mix that was there at the start - This may go on to be improved but the essence of what its all about is here now for me
You just love to experiment and I love that about you. Sure, there are some issues with this piece but I always hear your improvement and it get's better all the time. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained". BTW, I did enjoy this listen. Happy new year Erik!
Yeah there's some timing issues and the drums are a bit hit and miss in places but there's some inventiveness goin on here dude and I like it loads. Also reminded of zappa but a little bit more of Captain Beefheart. If the guitars were laid back (in places in the mix) and eq'd a little brighter in places and some of the drum strokes brought out more and (yeah there's a few ands in this sentence) stuff given some stereo width It'd be fantastic. Thumzup
I think you have a good song somewhere in here... but.... imho, too slow. Bring the bpm way up and you'll get a lot more interest. I think also then you'll find it easier to sort out some aweful timing issues. Do you lay tracks down against a click? If not, I suggest using one. If you do, turn it up louder. Production wise, you are showing some improvement, but everything seems way back and somewhat woolly. Coolest part was the guitar work, very Zappa to my ears. Hope this helps in some way, cos I know you can write good songs, but I suspect you record them in a fever and just publish them as they are. Try listening to what you like and doing a comparison so you can find your weaknesses, sort em out before you publish and get some cool admiring comments. Gonna rate because this is way better than some of your other stuff
I started playing and recording in December 2009. I play all of the instruments, write the lyrics, record & mix my tunes. I have no prior experience in music. I appreciate any advice, thoughts or tips that could help me become better at making music.
I have a Dean acoustic bass, an Ibanez electric bass, steel string acoustic, & nylon string acoustic. Ibanez electric and nylon string acoustic. Epiphone electric guitar & Alesis digital drum set. I record through PodFarm and record in GarageBand on a Mac.
