Formage de lungee durée (Wednesday, October 27, 2004)

Salute,

It has been three weeks since landing in the States again after a short hiatus in the UK. All bets were off on trying to secure work and place to stay over seas with the return date quickly approaching and my assets slowly dwindling with everyday that passed. However, I did manage to setup work and a place to stay in Paris. So you can bet that I am planning to return, if only for a short period after the New Year. With some of the friends and connections I have made in London and Paris it will prove for an interesting follow-up visit. Anyone down to travel, please stay in touch... Hey, you never know. Well, instead of flying back to San Diego directly, I decided to change my plans mid-route (via. Philadelphia Airport) and head to Florida for a visit with family and friends who I haven’t seen in five long years.

Having returned home many times over the last decade my expectations of finding challenging professional work in Panama City, FL were admittedly low. Arriving under curiously Devine circumstances (ask me to tell you the story one day) I was determine to meet some new players and begin organizing shows right away. For the last two Fridays I have presented my music (along with the music of talented artists; Slim Fatz, Tony Braun, The Jerry Riddle, Sairamoz) to Panama City audiences at the downtown Java Bar/Café.

Special thank you to Brian K. For allowing us to use his P.A. and also, inviting me to open for his band In A Past Life I at J. Kershes. (...dates are to be announced.)

Together we have begun booking dates through out Florida (look for us in cities like Pensacola, Orlando, St Pete) and we are even talking of travel to the northeast and possibly trans-Atlantic. I am excited about planning this tour not only because Brian and I will be working together on his Lo-Fi Emo project but because it is a chance for me to visit friends while I am on the east coast.

As always... the future has yet to be told but anything is possible. Best wishes from me to all of you.

Sincerely, David Hayes

Sojourn to the U.K. (Friday, October 01, 2004)
Hello Everybody,

I am writing to you from a cyber cafe in Paris, France. It is absolutely beautiful here, beyond belief...! And the people are wonderfully friendly. My traveling partner and I have spent the past several days trekking through London, England and have only just arrived here yesterday. In London we attended the London National Theatre for a premier performance of David Hare's "Stuff Happens". It is a satirical play about the last four years of the Bush Administration's warmongering, very telling and funny!

I had the opportunity to perform my music at a place called Ain't Nothing But the Blues Bar. We ended up going out later that night in London's SoHo district and meet up, by chance, with some of the people from the Blues Bar. It was a complete blast, to say the least. In London people love American music, especially from the 60's and 70's. They actually dance to it, which was rather surprising. I am not a dancer but that night I ended up dancing until 3am.

Please forgive me if I have not been in touch with you. I have made a lot of contacts since my move to San Diego 4yrs ago. I have performed professionally for 3yrs. under many disciplines; film acting, television, theatre, performance art, rock shows, etc. It is a real blessing to be able to work in this way. Even though it has gotten to be extremely difficult at times, I consider myself to be fortunate.

You can bet that this is the type of work I am looking for now that I have touched ground in the U.K. In the United Kingdom an artist is permitted to live and work without a Work Visa, if he/she has made a living in his/her homeland as an artist for one year, so long as, he/she can maintain themselves. I am starting back at ground zero, only a bit wiser to the game. Since I don’t know anyone in Europe I am going to need all the help that I can get…!

How you can help;

Please consider purchasing some of my artwork. It helps me immensely both in esteem and financially. I am planning to do many more drawings and paintings while I am here and will like be updating my ebay store in route. So be sure to check back frequently to see how things develop.

Once I have come back, I plan to finish my spoken word album & booklet and will most likely be contacting some of you to participate in future events/happenings. So please stay in touch with me through emails and let me know who, where, why and what you are up to.

Thanks for all the good times (and to everyone who came out to be a part of the Last Blast) I’ll see you all again soon.

Sincerely,
David Hayes
