The Words - Stand Up Sit Down.
Indie music is a genre I haven't seriously listened to since the earler days, when The Smiths, The Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets, The Wonder Stuff and all those other bands were playing, so I've admittedly been well out of touch for quite a few years.
It's also a genre that usually doesn't interest me much, but I'm the kind of guy who can appreciate well played music, whatever the style.
I would say that Indie music has gone a long way from what I would originally recognise it as, just as the original Rhythm and Blues style has travelled a road that has changed that genre beyond recognition too.
The Words are a four piece band (from what I can tell) who produce exactly the type of catchy music that I would readily associate with the tag of Indie.
The song is quite a joyous event in itself, raising the spirits with simple, guitar driven joyousness.
The vocals are also a pleasure to listen to, vocals with a definite northern twang, yet understandable enough for a wider audience to appreciate. From what I can tell here, the lyrics are pretty good fare, solid enough to carry it all off well.
After sampling quite a few of the band's other songs, the performances from everyone are spot-on, a very tight band all round, which makes me feel that these guys would be a bit of a killer live act.
Production wise, there's not much I can personally criticize, apart from the kick drum sound - I find it to be a little low in tone (or maybe it's the old subwoofer here going potty), as it seems to be booming a little here and there, masking some of the more delicately played guitar parts in the background, in my opinion a tighter, punchier kick sound would suit this type of upbeat tune better.
Also good is the overall summery atmosphere, maybe a little late for this summer's playlists, but definitely a tune that can help brighten our days as the nights start to set in as Autumn approaches.
All in all, I found this track to be a happy little number that can't fail to hook anyone with a decent sense of melody and structure.
Good work.
