Albert Dugger V2
This is an excellent track , the Story is brilliant , to come out with a song like this is an major task for me anyways, its all through a name that came up in the forum here.. The music and vocals all bend together Perfectly... Andy you are a very Talented Guy.It has it ups and downs in the song as the story unfolds . From a Piano, then Lyrics to this is a wonderful piece of talent ...Good Ole Albert... Andy tops again my friend on your Work...ABP... Bit late , but as they say better late than never :)
Great composition and production. The dramatic buildup is very effective. It hearkens back to The Beatles, but the details surrounding the melody and the development of the structure are very original and impressive.
Better late than never I guess... You songs always grab me and have a Pink Floyd five to them. With your own spin of course. Great job man EZ LATE rate Eric B A D L O V E J U N K I E
Bit late gettin to this! Yeah this has got quality all over it...to many bits to mention...superb..
My ears aint good enough to spot the EQ differences but it a great excuse to sing along once more :) Still thinking an Orchestral break in the middle would be cool. I imagine the likes of Valerie or AndyF could help out with an arrangement.
Now that I think of it. This reminds me of one of my all time favorite bands, 10CC. Yeah that's it!
I think you have made this even more listener friendly. Good job james! -rl
TBH all i did was take the previous 192kbpsec mp3, imported it into wavelab, did some tonal boosts and some more compression (in some parts of the spectrum) and dumped it out as another mp3. No wav files were harmed in any way BUT thanks to Allan (geiger) for the comment - it does sound better. Andy
Some classic british sounds methinks, as it keeps moving on I can't help but be impressed but your rather grand vision. Some classic sounds mixed with a bit of sparkle and imagination and very nicely done indeed.
As good a track as it gets in amateur musician land, inventive, totally disrespectful of what can be achieved in a bedroom with a few bits, quite special really, well done :) This mix is loads better than the last one by the way :)
Boosted the bass and a little tweak in the upper mid range.
This is the coolest thing I have heard from you and you have done some very cool stuff! -rl
Another great master piece sir! Keep it going dear. U deserve the best as always! Respect!
This is good stuff, love the whole piece. Great Song.
Well Done Andy.Number ONE...it had to be.Top tune and arrangement.
Wow, this is a cool track Andy - I agree that it really smacks of The Beatles (in a good way). Really well crafted piece of music. The vocals work well for me and the music is top drawer - really cool selection of sounds. All in all a memorable track with a very strong sense of song writing. This one gets a nom from me! D
I got into the story completely like a mini capsule in time..the beatles flavorings are very present and modernized not only in the arrangements but in the way you mixed them with what u are singing in that ponit giving the irony feel...outsanding
Absolute brilliance Andy! Lots of influences buried in this song. Early Genesis...etc. First listen did'nt really grab me...probably just manopause at the time...Listened again and my initial comment of this thread still stands. Absolutely brilliant! Lots of thought put into this arangement as well as your choice of instruments. Another chart topper for the greys ;o). Enjoyed this mate! Rich
Very creative Lyrics and music Andy, just love that piano chord workout so cool and clear. The drums are great mate nice little fills.Piece of cake line with the hidden words behind was a nice touch. This is a winner for sure, glad Ant told me to listen to it.The trippy sections are fantastic dude, all buttons press on this Epic.Production is mint clear deep bass but cymbals still ring out.More story's on Albert Dugger to come i hope. Its one of those special tunes that all comes together and works bigtime.
Superb songwriting Andy!!! The lyrics are brilliant as is the rest of the piece!! Production is seamless!!! It's such a pro piece of work!!! I love the Beatle influences in here, top track mate!!!!Rated Bud!!! Barry
Mentioning the Beatles is belabouring the obvious, their influence saturates the piece! Can't go to far wrong emulating the most successful songwriters of our generation; the only way to escape those comparisons with this song would be to change up the instrumentation and maybe get another vocalist. The operatic nature did make it easy to visualize the narrative, and brought the Who's "Tommy" to mind. Great story, can't go wrong with tales of crime and punishment, and you laid that out brilliantly along with a bit of social commentary, I loved the "looks" Mama Dugger was still getting afterwards in the bingo hall! Well done, easily one of your best productions, Andy. Was going to crit the lack of originality with arrangement and melody, but I'm pretty sure Lennon and McCartney lifted quite a bit of that themselves, didn't they? Thanks for the "heads up", glad I heard this, rated and 'nated, buddy.
So many interesting comments and every one of them informative and I think it shows that this is, above all, a song that makes us THINK. So I, upon being invited to comment, decided I was probably being asked what I thought of the lyric. So here is the thing---it's more than a lyric it is a nothing-left-out story told in narrative to a fabulous music score. Beatlesque in many ways yet brilliantly unique and, I am certain, memorable....you are turning into a social commentator for our times (as Dylan was for his) and I admire that because in the same way, you don't come across as a political boor. Bloody good mate! Top notch.
My overall feeling after listening to your song is it had me thinking of Elvis Costello singing a Beatle parody. Sounded like you had fun. Your sound is really professional quality. I can't get over how clean everything sounded to me in this song.
Hmmm. A very interesting flute tune in the beginning. lol Then we have a piano stomping tune along with a bass line and some nice sounding drums. Good so far. I'm liking the vibe of the song. It's reminds me a lot like an older Elton John song. The drums have nice intervals and alternate a lot and never stay totally the same. Then the knocking adding to the details in the background. A good classic sound. Definitely a great one to add to the books. Your vocals sound perfect in this. They're nice and vibrant. I can't make up my mind whether or not they're too loud but I think they fit in just fine. There is a lot going on in the song with the strings, the jingles, the orchestration, the flute coming back in and with all that, I can still hear the bass line in it all. Well I really liked the song. The lyrics are pretty wild along with the vibe of the song. It's almost like an acid trip. Never been on one but I can imagine what it would be like. haha! Everything fits really well in this. I like how you got the odd sounding flute to fit in there and have a decent amount of space left to add some clarity. Which it has a lot of. Production wise: I'd describe it as very vibrant and crisp. The bass sounds a bit higher in the notes than what I'm used to from you but hey, if it works, why not? Eh? I loved the snare and the metals in the drum work. They are so well done I'm actually pretty darned impressed! You made them sound so "IN" there. Nobody's gonna budge those drums. They're stuck! The mix is pretty strong and nothing seems to break it apart. It all falls in place. It also has a sort of bold attitude. Like "This is how I am and you're gonna deal with it!" type of vibe. Very good way of displaying such an attitude through music. A winner in my book. The entire song is a real jewel to listen to. It even glistens the same way! Have a rate and I'll put this on my "nom to be" list. Lots of music to still go through that I've missed. It's good to be back and it's a pleasure commenting on another great song from you, man. Have an awesome day!
Where's the nom button?
First thoughts - very Beatles. Thank you for posting lyrics ... with your cute British accent + my unfamiliarity with the subject, they help. Second thought - blood pressure rising because incarceration is the weapon used to stifle the informed masses (errrh!). I applaud (and nominate) this track for you being politically active and highlighting injustice! Technically, excellent as usual. Perfect musically, vocally and of course, your engineering is flawless. Interesting how you start out so "business as usual" then get into some grating sounds, indicating the chaos in which the masses live. Applause.
Its the Beatles all over again!! superb track. R
I've decided I do have one small crit to make: I hate you!
Andy, simply put...I love it! Gets top marks of course... Dan
Love the feel of the piano stabs when the vocal comes in. Great idea for a song and love those lyrics and the vox is a winner. Vocal answer a bit quiet at 4.47. Can hear the Sgt Pepper influence in the music and it works brilliantly and its good to know that someone can still achieve that magic! Hats off and buttons pressed!
First thing that sticks out is the quality of production, great mix and mastering.Pink noise...?:) I never really got the Beatles (apart from Hey Jude),but do I like this... great songwriting Andy and quite an epic track. But it's the over all sound that impressed the most...a very accomplished production m8. R8ed and more...
Forgot to say, beautifully controlled bassline
The missing track from Sgt Pepper's - I wondered what it was! Also got vibes of Maxwell's Silver Hammer from Abbey Road. You and McCartney been hangin out together? I have no crits on this, expertly produced, written and executed. Drums not loud enough of course hee hee .... A winner here I suspect... RnN
Bloody hell, this is how to make music! Top lyrics, top music too - daft I know but I really like the background crashes..
Hi Andy! Excellent listen and a wonderful storyline. Loved every minute.Vocals are superb. I don't tink you need anymore musical interludes the length is perfect. I see the Beatlesque connection but the main theme of the song, to me, is something Gilbert O'Sullivan would have done. You have mirrored his talent in lyric writing and the telling of the story. Your intelligence shines through on this. All buttons pressed. Take Care Andy :)
Hello... Music is very clever, clarity and production is spot on....A real treat to hear clarity... My only slight downer is that the voice is a tad nasal in the first verse( i mean no offence) but is fine after that.... Great idea, interesting lyrics, top song writing and very original...Fair play and well done!!
I just knew I would love this from the first couple of bars. Its intelligently composed and thoughtfully considered. This is the kind of track where you wish a live orchestra could have been at your disposal. Andy you are a fine musician and producer and the least I can do it offer a nom.
I began recording songs in January 2006. Genre is rock, pop and jazz with electronica dabbles on a few toons. It's a hobby for me. I record using cubase.
Home studio using a PC, yamaha keyboard, a couple of guitars, a Digitech effects unit and a mic. I use cubase for recording/mixing and wavelab for mastering. I've got a rode NT1A mic for vocal.
A strange fact - in 1976, the term "Mega" was 1st coined by me and came into general usage as meaning something great or awesome. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and "mega" was a technical prefix meaning "a million times". I remember that all my fellow students started using the term so maybe this was down to me. Nobody hardly says it anymore so i guess it's run it's course.
Another strange fact - i designed a telephone for use in a mortuary
Nice strong melody & energy to this track, would be great for the movies.
wow i felt like i was actually at a pink floyd concert excellent tune.
James Oakwood is a new name to me from MP3 Unsigned but hey, he is a man in love with his bed obviously so he's cool by me. He's also a rock artist which, as you well know, definitely fine by me. According to his webpage, he's only been writing and recording since 2006 and features a tasty pick of all his kit (is that a Dell?); the kind of stuff you need to make rock music. Even
Wooohooo!
A refreshing track about my fave place, I love it!
Keep em comming Mr Oakwood!!
