Geist is a 5-piece independent band (formed in 2002, 2003, 2004 and finally in 2005) describable as 'pop-rock' for want of a pigeon-hole of their own. They could be a six or seven-piece band if you included the other writer - Dominic Hudson and our personal session piano player - Dave Coston, who fits Geist in where he can.

In 2003 Geist released Songs For Your Neighbour featuring only two of the current line-up (John and Neill), and were asked to provide a theme tune for the Channel 5/Eye Film & TV programme A Different Life, which has been BAFTA nominated and is now in its 3rd series (and commissioned for a 4th). Incidental music in the programme has been taken from Songs for Your Neighbour.

Geist, as they are now, have been together since May 2005 and formed around Songs For Your Neighbour; Anna Jenkins joined in 2004 during her last year at Trinity Music College, and Stuart Francis and Terry Hughes after hearing the 1st album.

Songs For Your Neighbour sold through the Unsigned...AS YET! section on CD-Wow, remaining in the Top Ten for over 2 years. Since this section is now being wound down, it is now selling through cdbaby.

Decreasing Circles, was released on 14 February 2006, and is being sold through CD-Wow and amazon.co.uk.

Geist - n. spirit; intellectual capacity or bent. Freedom or self-contained existence; freedom designated as ability to self-direct.

Our strongest influences would be the mixture of good songwriting and the love of a good pop song. We appreciate, and take inspiration from, various artists such as Bob Dylan, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dexy's Midnight Runners, The Beatles, The Pogues, Neil Young, The Fall, Steve Earle.. none of whom really have much to do with Geist's music. Those who have seen Geist live usually say that they’ve not heard the like before.
