It's an acronym for Virtual Studio Technology and Virtual Studio Technology Instrument. They are virtual versions of real world hardware studio components and instruments that plug-in to a variety of sequencers (most famously cubase)...e.g., so you could play a Grand Piano VSTi without ever having a Grand Piano in the real world or route your channel (or mix) through a variety of (chained if you wish) filters. |
