Connor Rand & the Red Dirt Band are a five piece countrified rock & roll group from Atlanta. Singer/songwriter Connor Rand and his band share a belief in simple stories, subtle wit, and uncluttered music with deep roots. They are dedicated to bringing their brand of music, drawn from the rich well of American musical tradition, to all those music fans that feel a little out of step with the times. This is music for the fossils, the relics, and the defiantly un-hip. The concept is simple yet timeless: good songs played with gusto. After a three year stint fronting Flat Broke & Busted, a high-energy roots rock act from Athens GA, singer/songwriter Connor Rand began to delve into his love of old-timey country and folk music, writing a slew of songs about drunks, lowlifes, and the women they can’t seem to hold onto. He soon set out to form a new band suited to play these songs. He first enlisted his former band mate from Flat Broke & Busted, guitar picker, Patrick Ingram. Next, he recruited two members from the defunct Atlanta folk group, Recovering Alice: bass player Matt Moffitt and piano man Jay Wamsted. With these musicians, Connor recorded the folksy solo album, “Dry County”. Finally, after the addition of drummer Shawn Collins, a veteran of the New York Country music scene, who cut his teeth in his father’s country & western band, the Red Dirt Band was ready for the road. In August of ’05, after a year of playing shows across the Southeast, Connor Rand & the Red Dirt Band released their self-titled debut. In contrast with Connor’s ballad-laden solo album, this record is full of upbeat, good timin’ music. This mission now is to take this music to the folks.
