Mothersday is a three-piece group that hails from Baltimore, Maryland. Members consist of John Butler, Walter Rodgers, and John Somers. While the group has a standard structure in the sense that primary percussion is provided by Walter Rodgers, vocals by John Butler, and electronics by John Somers, all members fulfill multiple roles – which requires multiple instruments – during live performances. The band's sound has been described by one source as “snowballing crescendoes...kept in line by martial snares and regimented further by bristly yodels”, and another as “shoegazing”, but the group simply describes themselves as “experimental pop”. Over the previous years, Mothersday has released two EP's on very limited runs, and will release their first full-length album titled, Tree Houses, in March of 2013. Tree Houses was recorded and mixed by John Butler in Baltimore, and mastered and sequenced by Alex Somers (Sigur Ros/Jonsi/We Bought a Zoo) in Iceland.
