The elves and the shoemaker (Demo)
Totally agree with what this song is about. To the point and hard hitting, lyrically and performance wise.
Very nice work, natural with the guitar & singing!, thumbz up!
Hey Naughty, I love the subject matter and I do agree with Black Wookie! Wonderful music as it is. Beautiful emotion expressed in your vocal and guitar playing and the guitar is excellent string noise and all. Production aside, this is a classic! Thumbs!
Great work! This is what music is all about right here! I will be a little critical on the heavy hands sliding on the strings but as the song plays on I start to see that they actually work fairly well in the song but are maybe just a tad overpowering in contrast to the beautifully picked strings! Sound work in progress indeed! -Mike
Like the rawness of this piece, from every string scrape to the openess of the vocal. Not sure you need to process anything really. Good stuff :-)
Thanks for the positive vibes - I deliberately posted this as a WIP- as it is quite raw and unprocessed compared with my usual stuff.I hope to post more songs eventually, as my time frees up after the summer...
Far better than I could do with a one-take piece Will. Got your style aplenty and not a bad go at vocals dude - you sound better than me given the dryness and un-eq'd nature of the vox. You can do a lot with compression, eq and a touch of reverb - believe me. Good work dude, thumzup
Will, this is so moving and powerful, just as is. Sometimes, is is more powerful, and more striking because of the simplicity. It is uncluttered and performed marvelously well. Your finger-picking is superb (especially the rising notes of the chorus before you start the next verse), and the noise of the slides on the wound strings is overlooked as the song moves along. The focus is definitely on the voice and the lyrics. Both of these are a delight to the ears ;) Well done! Thumbs!
The lyrics and message in this song are excellent! Very nice guitar work on this track also. I look forward to the final version, although I really do enjoy the song as it is right now. I think your vocals are really cool, personally - but I know what you mean about not liking your own voice because I have never liked my voice. When I hear your voice I also hear the lyrics, which make it even more of great part of your music, So keep on writing great lyrics and I'll never notice whether you really have a bad voice or not. LMAO!! It is a treat to hear you make a new tune - thanks for posting this!
Thanks very much indeed both - I have absolutely no liking for my voice, it's held me back from recording songs, although I do sing - because I don't need to listen - so this is a real help for me.
Excellent Folk/Protest song, and wonderful guitar, I also love your vocals, very evocative and soulful sound. This really reminds me of the best songs of the British Folk-Rock scene, late 60's, 70's to now. An easy vote! Cheers, Andrew
What a great back story for this gem! I love good folk music and is more than good! So great to hear a new one from you. I miss not hearing more of your beautiful magic. I would love to see you live. I could sit around and listen to you play all night long. Loved it Eric
Mad on music since I was a boy but only bought my first guitar at nineteen. Now a one man band producing home recordings since 2008, played on mainly acoustic instruments. Influences are mainly 70's children's TV music and 80's indie with a bit o' folk thrown in for good measure. I record original material by taking a riff or theme for a stroll; it can take us to some surprising places.
Thanks for listening, and if you like what you hear, then all well and good... feel free to grab a dl. Cheers.
