A mix between Sade and the female vocalists featured in Thievery Corporations music. Interesting instrumental track that is kind of confusing to me but the vocals carry this all the way. I'm not using real good speakers here so maybe that's why I'm not getting the instrumental, can't hear any low frequencies. But this is definitely new, fresh and exciting. Great job!!
Nice tribal rhythms. Good synthlines. Great vocals if i imagine the old md1 project muaic thia ia different and more smooth. Great track.
I could hear this on my Ministry of Sound chillout album. This song's definitely individualistic and gives me ideas on musical possibilities I've never thought of. Thanks!
Not sure how this is electronica, but it is a genious, genious piece. What a sexy voice Melinda has! The trumpet is soothing and so perfectly laid back in the mix. This has professional quality from the first to last note. Great lyrics, composition and performances! I would nom & rate but I know I'm late. So I'll just rate. Well done M8s!
tight production, very well put together.
What a lovely track...it so mellow and sexy...almost like the horns are making love with Melinda's voice...absolutely beautiful m8. It's a straight up rate from me...lol...better late than never...lol
This is so full, You really got it going on,Vocals are so rich,You built a great track here.
I love everything about it!
This is so mellow and full of sound. I love those drums. This is a gerat performance from you both and it's well mixed. Really enjoyed this one.

A quality to aspire to (with a special mention for the vocals they are mint)

Another great track! man, the production you guys are putting out is really really good! new fan here. :) and thanks for the fightin'... I'm feelin' better.
Great stuff as always Ricky, the collab works really well, your production is superb as always and the vocal works perfectly.
Great sounding vocals. Nice piano. Cool hands drums everywhere. Really nice trumpet indeed. Good amount of FX on it. Little distortion eh? Very interesting song in almost every aspect.
listening as i type. wow this is good. already im intimidated of putting my lameo songs up lol. the first two tracks ive heard on this site blow mine away. the female vocal is marvelous.
We really diggin ur tracks. Even though we do Hip Hop we still got lots of love for all types of music. Im a hugh fan of Dance, Techno, Funk & Electronica myself. Ya sounds really good. Would love to do a collab. Melinda's voice is so soothing and such star quality. I would love to have her feature on a track. Get at us!
Sorry I have missed this Ricky but I have been away. Mel sounds very classy on this and you two have been producing some really top stuf.Congrats on the charts too y friend.
Still standing strong this week at #2 - Way to go you darlin' duo! ;)
Great mood to this one. Gotta love it. Glad I listened!
What a fine track this is!!! I especially love the relaxed, laid-back, floating, exotic overall feel in it - very, very pleasant and soothing to listen to it. Great touching vocs. The different instruments are really nicely interweaved and communicating with each other in a thoroughly pleasing way. A very deserved no. 1 indeed!
Greatt airy feeling tot this one you two!Mels vocals are OUSTANDIING!Lov'in the way she accents some of the words.I think I hear some country and blues leaking through, lol.Very nice job on the mixing Ricky.Like I said before, you two make a great team!
lovely Sunday afternoon- beer in hand, not a care in the world; nice vocals as usual... keep up the good work
On your ecommendation Ricky: Nice spheric intro, like those drums to give it a junglelike feeling...Nice vocals that give it a bit of a hot steamy sphere...Very nice one and different! Like that tropical thing it got...Again some great work delivered!!! Compliments!! Keeps improving and innovating!
Very soothing trumpet, solid vocals and very easy to listen to. The mixing is good, though maybe you could make the vocals more distinct at some parts. Very beautiful, rated :)
Vocals melt into the heart and set themselves to be remembered always... Beautiful song..... love it
yea man, nice track i can relax to this, this is cool
This is just what i needed after all this dnb ive been doing. This track is lush ,everthing in this track just flows. That trumpet is great.Melinda mohns voice is amazing as always.Fills the my room up. Your album is gonna be killer, good luck with everthing.
Ooo very chilled - love the vox...bit slow for my mood right now but this proper high profile chill out stuff! Vox still reinds of Kate Bush - v.imprssed! Am gonna look for some MD -1 madness now! Thumbs
Marvelous!Beautiful!Gorgeous!Two thumbs up guys.Rated.
Congratulations on this #1 hit which can be found in this weeks charts! Listened several times and enjoying listening again! Bravo you two! ;)
Cool track. Great vocals. Go Mel. Your voice is full and rich. It really goes well with this music.
I am glad that Mr M. has found the something special he has needed to focus his talent. Great job all around from the backing to the vox to the lyrics to the trumpet to the melody to the....bravo
Reminds a little of Oletta Adams .. Gorgeous
Beautifully produced with a nice vocal soft ending, the whole track flows superbly with the slow percussions and saxophone/trumpet (not sure whih lol). The mix of the vocals and the music make this a beautiful and well written piece of music. Excellent work. xxx
What an Angelic voice! Congrats on #1 in the charts! Great job! Rated.
This is awesome, I'm loving the retro production.. gorgeous voice, very commercial, great percussion, great trumpet. It's all great lol, gonna grab me a download, one of the best collabs I've heard.. unique and commerical at the same time :)
A pure class song is this....superbly written, and stunningly produced, and effortlessly performed. This track should be heard on a mainframe platform, coz its just so classy. I personally love the reverb....i use the effect probably too much to excess than most, but i find it only adds to the ambience of this haunting trip. Sorry about being late on this.......but , im glad i made it. Rated, nom`d, and enjoyed.
very nice balanced mix nice drop at about 2 mins in...Im of the thinking that the vox reverb is ok as ive listened to a lot of floyd with the fem vox and they always used quite a bit of reverb so used to hearing it...i,ll get back to the others asap ..rated and its so different to rickys own stuff..well done
well its all been said below, as I am very late to get here I cant say any more, ecxept that I do agree with Dan that for me there is a tad too much reverb on vocs,,, but it doesn't detract from the fact this just sooo good! well done my friends, exceptional slice of electronica, and the trumpet fits in there like hand in a glove, superb vocs.
tasty tast tasty! i thik i like the verb too! love the jazz feel on top of the elctronica treatment... ending was sublime.... only proper thing to do is reach for the buttons guys... awesome!
Hi Ricky and Mel, everything sounds great except IMO to much reverb on Mels vox. Can't understand what she's saying. Trumpet is a good touch, production is airtite, handdrums are another great addition. Rated
I like the piano chords in the intro. The vocals are great. There's always a lot of reverb on Melinda's voice, and I think sometimes too much, but in this track it all falls into place. The vocals are processed in a 'George Michael' way, and I mean this in a good way ;) Reverb tail has a lot of high freqs in it. Works great in this track. The trumpet is the cherry on the cake here. Good one.
Sh1te how did I miss this? Reminds me of a tears for fears song on sowing the seeds of love album (?) - it has the same vibe (to me) and it's fantastic dude. Rated. I also loved the hand drum stuff and the very laid-back rhythm overall.
lol, unlike me, sh*t everything is in sync can't find anything out of time, Sry, thought i left a comment, this is my second time listenin to this. Like that vocal with that reverb effect. Damn everything perfect, the only suggestion is keep up the good work!
now I have changed my hearing aid batteries I can really appereciate this. Agree with reverb comment - you've got a lovely voice Mel and I know it comes across best with a touch less - I wonder if if you could try splitting the vocal part into three different tracks rather than 2 and applying differing amounts of reverb to all three - I'm sure Ricky can sort that out though. Good backing Ricky. I love the musical backing aswell - sweet ending too - this seems to have what it takes to get somewhere - well done! - jon. (i hope i don't sound all know it all!)
sorry, didn't know it was a trumpet :P
eh its brass lol
Hey man! Awesome intro here. Loved the piano and bam the vocals came in. Very chilled, but it's still captivating. It's not exactly background music, though it could be great relaxed music to be played in your car driving home from a hard day's work.
Heck I'm playing a video game right now and just paused it at the moment to actually hear what I'm listening to, because I'm that intrigued by it.
This collab...seriously you two. You two make an awesome team. Very nice saxophone as well. I know how you much love that and you know how much I love the piano. You didn't have to do that for me! :D
Great little tune you got here Ricky and Mel. You know you definitely got my thumbs up! :D Keep it up!
vocals are good great even..percussion is flawless in my view.. trumpet is kool and chilled vibe. top track rated!
Very smooth !!!Like oil on glass...
Colors from a never ending flower garden...
Ace preformance all the way around !!!
Dare I say that I would have put a little reverb on the percussion to liven up a little as well as bring up the bass track a little(could barely here it)
I found everything else perfect as it is a walk in the park for you two...
It belittles anything I've ever done
A class chill track from a class due. The trumpet gives it a great feel, although I agree with Tedd-Z that Mel's vocals are so good they don't need the protection of all the effects (unlike some of us mere mortals! ;-) I'd like to hear them cleaner, personally. Love the ending, by the way.
A nice, jazzy feel to this! The trumpet sections are quality! The only minor gripe I have is that I feel there's a bit too much reverb on the vocals! But otherwise, great work from you two (and Ron)!
not much to add other then well done. the percussion elements are a good choice, trumpet melts
fan-damn-tastic stuff. such a smooth sound! final track? ): this has been a collab for the history books me thinks.
class as expected! great track!
Thought I had already commented on this, maybe it was an earlier version. Anyhow I really like the chill out vibe to this one. Love the trumpet too, another nice jazzy number...well done guys:)
Very diffrent sounding track. I like it, its quite relxing.
A full track......very nicely layered.....vocal fantastic as is all the instrumentation (top percs!)......good loud mix too!! Kevin Mooney
This is really nice. In every aspect.
Cheers for the dl.
SUPERB! lots of very interesing layers upon layers of quality stuff inside :). haunting trumpet too..... :)))))))
~Two of my favorite artists~ A style all your own, so original. Wonderful trumpet from Ron, class style of Melinda's vocals..beautiful-always. And last by certainly not least Mr. Ricky.. you got this music stuff down pat don't you! ;) You all sure "worked it out" on this one! Bravo! :)
Wooooh, that trumpet sounds great! Nice mellow beat and overall feel to this. Top notch all the way around as always it seems. Great harmonizing Mel!
I was wondering where you had gone Ricky with no tune out last week, but have to say this is a fuking niiiiice comeback! Still getting that Toni Braxton feel from you Mel! Quality vocals with some powerful emotion.
I dunno what it is about this track but it just all flows lovely together! The trumpet is a sweet addition to the track and i think it reinforces a top notch track! There that perc work again, Ricky are you programming these or are you playing on the real instrument because it sounds so real and played live! lol Jeez Mel you are giving me shivver hitting some of those notes! And outstanding performance from you in this one for sure!
Production is top class as usual, singing is just stunning and the trumpet is soooo saxy! lol Sunset beach! Kinda sounds in parts like the theme tune to me for some reason? lol
Quality track you two and i really hope it does well as im sure it will!
Best of luck with it you two!
You never fail to amaze. A stunner indeed. I especially like the trumpet work.
first off..crisp n nice,levels all spot on,arrangment keeps your interest,crackin programming..what else do you need..nice one
Now this is one smooth and sexy slice of electronica. Exotic should be rewritten as ethereal in this song. Trademark Ricky Mancini production is just the a small mention as here Mel's voice is absolutely phenomenal. The best I have heard so far(and that is considering the high standards already employed). A curiously gentle backline of drums seems to complete a picture of Oriental journeys and adventures(?) with the odd twist of ambient jazz tones(trumpet is awesome in this) and textuers. All in all probably the best track I have heard in the last couple of years. Ramblings over. Rated.
I've been wow'ed by a few tracks the last few weeks and this is no exception!
I think its great. Amazing production and lovely vocals on this....class :)
Hey Ricky, this has your trademark quality production all over it, the mix of sounds is superb. Vocal fits perfectly!
Enjoyed it mate.
I like the chilled vibe, and the hand drums are really cool. another quality vocal performance from melinda. class track again!
This track just oozes style and quality from start to finish, love it, brass and piano sound fantastic and Mel, your voice is suberb lady, big thumbs up for you both
Two Filthy Minds, Twenty Fingers
Whenever Ricky Mancini slams a track into my review list, am torn in two different directons; flight or fight. In his MD-1 Project personna, his music is often abrasive, disconcerting and hard to get close to. There again in his collaborative effort with Melinda Mohn - the aforementioned Stella Polaris Project - his testosterone levels are somwhat calmed by, presumably, her calming prescence. T
Fourth time up for current MP3 Unsigned darlings Ricky Mancini (aka MD1-Project on the same site) and dulcet toned Melinda Mohn who collectively make up Stella Polaris Project. As it happens, I have been snowed under over the past month with CD's of all shapes and sizes, including Orphans, the latest from this duo. Regular readers will remember the impact this duo have made on me, gett
I bet that Ricky (Mancini) and Melinda (Mohn) known collectively as Stella Polaris Project are probably a bit stunned that, finally, I managed to spell their name right. Couldn't get it for the life of me until I came up with an ingenious (nay cunning) plan. I had the name tattooed on my childrens foreheads because I see them every day so I am not likely to forget. There again, m
Here's a question that's been rattling around my brain for a while; what has twenty fingers and two filthy minds? Well I don't know cos I guess I'm too old to be thinking about it, but I do know such an entity has a name - Stellar Polaris Project. This is the second track I've heard from this duo from MP3 Unsigned comprising of Ricky Mancini (aka MD-1 Project) and Melinda Mohn. A
Regular readers may have noticed that this month, for the first time in a long while, I have managed to snag some tracks from MP3 Unsigned. Digital Juggernaut was the first of these, Stelar Polaris the second. Stelar Polaris are an electronica due featuring Ricky Mancini (which should be a familiar name to long term readers) and Melinda Mohn. Not sure who does what but I gu
Thought this one was gonna be a tough one to review, but I listened to it a few more times and managed to get a handle on how I felt about the track so here goes. I suppose what first strikes you about this pairing is that it shouldn't really work. A deep soulful voice, mixed with challenging jazz/avant-garde chord progressions and whatever else they care to bring to the party. What's equally surp
For those that don't know, Stella Polaris is a collaboration that formed on this site between Ricky Mancini (MD-1 Project) and Melind Mohn (solo). Ricky the producer/nstrumentalist and Melinda the singer/ lyricist who also produces and arranges her own music. A very unique combination that I would have never paired together as he is predominately a trance music
The first thing that your reviewer encounters when embarking upon a review is, of course, the title. And today, dear reader I am faced with a track called “Orphans” and what strikes me immediately is how evocative that title is.
So allow me please, a brief digression while I muse on this word. First off, it comes down to us from Greek (orphanos), via Latin (orphanus) and Middle English a
