Comment on this story Singer JoCaine and his group, JoCaine & 75 North, have worked hard to gain a large local following. The band has played all over Michigan and toured the country with their friends, Uncle Kracker and rock band Tantric. JoCaine also was recently asked to hop on a few dates with Poison front man Brett Michaels, as he tours Metro Detroit doing solo shows. The southern-rock group with a hint of hip-hop has sold more than 5,000 CDs independently. Yet, the band can't seem to land a record deal. JoCaine is shopping for a deal for its next release, "Can't You Smell What's Cooking?" The CD features appearances by Uncle Kracker and saxophonist Alto Reed. JoCaine (Joe Binki), 28, a former Division II All-American football player, is excited about the idea of competing in The Detroit News' Sonic Summer contest and the possible chance to perform at the finals, at the Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats in Pontiac during Labor Day weekend. "It's a cool festival. I've been down there almost every year supporting other bands," he says. "It's a good opportunity to play in front of a bunch of people." To enter the Sonic Summer contest, e-mail a jpeg photo and an MP3 song from your band, or snail-mail us a CD and a band photo. Band members must be 18 or older and U.S. citizens. A panel of Detroit News staffers will whittle the field of Sonic Summer entrants down to 30, split them into groups of 10 and put them online at Detnews.com. From there, readers can vote on the band they like best. The top-four vote-getters from each group will perform at one of the August semifinal showcases -- Aug. 12 at the Magic Stick in Detroit, Aug. 19 at Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac and Aug. 25 at the Magic Bag in Ferndale. Two bands from each of the semifinal rounds will battle it out in the Sonic Summer finals at Pontiac's Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats festival during Labor Day weekend. Prizes include studio time at a local recording facility, a music video, a performance slot at the 2006 Motor City Music Conference, and other goodies. Anyway That You Want Me: This is an older song of Chip's that I have always loved and wanted to do. A friend introduced me to Steffanie Christi'an, who at this point is an unknown young singer who sounds well beyond her years. Al Kooper, someone I listened to for ages and have recorded and played live with quite extensively, put his trademark organ on the song. Likewise Jimmy Vivino on guitar who is also a member of the Rekooperators band with Al. Duck Dunn, the incomparable bassist of Booker T and the MG's - a band I have fortunate to play with on many occasions, adds his distinctive style on bass.
Every song on this disc is good, but if I were in charge of marketing this album, I think I'd offer 'Anyway That You Want Me' as the first single. The Chip Taylor penned song is done wonderful justice by the vocals of Steffanie Christi'an. Of all of the songs, this one has the most noticeable 'pop' appeal.

Steffanie and the boys from Jocaine & 75 North have just finished 3 great nights on the road with Detroit’s own Uncle Kracker. Steffanie and her management would like to thank Uncle Kracker and his crew, The Zink Bros. @ The Machine Shop, Doug & Nancy @ Streeters, all the new fans, and Jocaine & 75 North for bringing her aboard. The fan support has been overwhelming, and it looks as if she is gaining fans one after another. Be watching for her solo release after the New Year, and new material from Jocaine & 75 North featuring Steffanie on back ground vocals. To all that have voted and commented on her music at mp3unsigned.com, thanks for the love and support.

Ce Ce Williams a writer for The Real Detroit Weekly wrote this article in the Oct.6-12 issue of Real Detroit Weekly. The only acceptable reason for not being at the Royal Oak Music Festival was rockin out to the sounds of Jocaine & 75 North and White Boy Ric at the Emerald Theater. Jocaine had a star-studded night at his last show at the Magic Bag with guests like Uncle Kracker and a special performance by Kid Rock. It's too bad we missed the Emerald show but we've already decided to hit the highway as Jocaine & 75 North will be playing at The Machine Shop in Flint on October 9 with Crtical Bill and Zug Izland. Thanks Ce Ce She actually called and let me know her car broke down on the way to the show!!

Steffanie Christi’an treats us to an incredible ballad that would sit well in one of those worldwide Disney cartoon hits that spawn numerous other FAR less worthy hits. If I had a child I’d be happy for her/him to listen to such a beautiful and thoughtful number. It is a well structured and immaculately delivered track where her voice is both complimented by AND complimentary to the music. Yes, i
