AHX aka AHXIMUS PRIME or Jewel Avenue AHX, is a name that is sure to be on the tip of the hip-hop industry’s tongue in the near future. Raised on the streets of Flushing Queens, New York, he was exposed to hip-hop as far back as he can remember, thanks in part to his brother spinning records as DJ Cor Dap. AHX credits his brother as a major influence. “If my brother had spun rock-nroll, that’s what I’d be listening to today. I’d sit outside my brother’s room when he was spinning records, and listen through the door.” “I wanted to make the records, not play them,” AHX remembers. AHX’s production skills are a whole other monster, be it contagious headbobbing songs like “Clap That Ass”, and “I Will”, or thoughtful and discerning pieces such as “Watchin” or “Something’s Gotta Give”. Overall, I’d say that Jewel Avenue AHX and BrokeHouse Records may very well be the catalysts to orchestrate the long overdue overhaul that the hip-hop game has needed for years now. AHX’s production values are top-notch on the tracks I have heard thus far. It’s hard to tell from where AHX’s sensibilities originate. They seemingly combine both oldschool and mainstream hiphop and culminate in a genuine feast for the ears. Even on tracks in which AHX is only a featured artist, he tends to be the brightest star.
